His knees sank into the mud. The gag around his mouth was removed, the rope digging into the corners of his lips. Hands bound behind his back, his ankles bound too, connected by a length of rope that made it impossible to lean forward. More restraints had been tied around his torso, clamping his arms to his sides. Mori thought it all overkill, he was a human like them. Just with a strange marking on his arm that allowed him to… he wasn’t sure. Banish? Absorb? He didn’t know and he had no one to ask. The yokai that had gifted him, forced him to take, the power had been illusive. In fact they’d vanished as if they never existed.
‘Bow you cur,’ the samurai barked. He backed away and joined the other noble warriors along the edge of the wall. Mori looked to his left and right. Ruinous walls crumbling with age surrounded him. Pruned bushes and trees freshly felled sprouted from the ground, patch with wooden boards and tiles…
