Sayo awoke grumbling of a pain in her head and a soreness in her back. Her words were like slurry. She tried to stand up but halfway sighed and slipped back down against the wall of Sumiyoshi-taisha. Mori knelt at her side hushing her and pressing a gourd of water to her lips. He wasn’t sure how safe they were now that Kumagashi had fled to the demon realm. Mori didn’t know how the blue oni had done it, she had just vanished… or been engulfed by it or something from beyond. He pushed the thought from his mind, nausea rising in his throat. How could he defeat an enemy that appeared from some other realm that was hell itself for all he knew. He poured a small mouthful of water onto Sayo’s lips.

‘Hey! Mori, there’s someone in here,’ Kota called from across the ruined gardens. The boy leant on his sword, holding his arm across his middle, and limped inside a dark building.
