Brave, good sir. It's never a good idea to go after an Emperor

unless you know how he gained his power

Never try to kill a man

by climbing up a tower.

But if you take your gold

and intend to spend it on a slave

Just be prepared for the emperor

to treat you like a knave.

This is so well done. The mix of fiction and reality; the Roman names taken out of context. I loved everything about it. I'm a big Roman history nut, and while this isn't Rome, it has the flavour of it, and the layers. I hope you do more.

Thank you, glad you're enjoying the blend of fiction and reality. While I enjoy reading historical fiction I know I don't know enough to write it so a blend is best. It will continue but I don't know how long for, at least not yet.

Loved it. I know nothing of the characters and their stories, and it didn't bother me in the least. You, Sir, paint an immersive picture.

Thank you so much! Means so much to hear that my words are working as intended.

Bael should've gone for him while he was monologuing. Although given how prepared the guy was, that might not have worked anyway. Good stuff!

I'm sure Bael wished he had taken his chance with the praetorians, but such is life. Hesitation is defeat after all.

Thanks for reading!

I like the ending of this one! I was actually expecting the emperor to hire Bael to kill Livicus, but this is good too. 😉
