Great story. I got goosebumps at the end. I loved the way you described the setting. One phrase in particular was so apt: ear-screeching silence. That's how it seems to me, too, after unceasing noise.

Thank you! Yes, unceasing noise leads to that odd white noise, can never figure out if I have tinnitus or if it is my mind filling in the blank.
I loved writing this and wasn't sure where it was going until quite near the end.
I really enjoyed this. Well-written and captivating! I love how Dr Cao is an outsider, and not a close-knit member of the team.
